The Legend of Vox Machina Lands on Amazon Prime, Batman Catwoman Special and New Wolverine Release

by Samii Jinx

We’ve almost completed January and what a slog it’s been! Luckily there have been some amazing entertainment world releases to keep our batteries charged! New launches from Pokemon, Hellboy, the long-awaited D&D inspired animated adventure The Legend of Vox Machina and a surprise entry from Zelda are just some at the top of my list!

Let me just start with the update I am most excited for, The Boys Presents : Diabolical! In March 2022, the animated anthology spinoff series will debut on Amazon Prime and I can NOT wait! Whilst each episode is only due to be around 15 minutes long, The Boys is probably my favourite series from the last few years and definitely my favourite superhero launch in a very long time!

Diabolical seems to have a very Animatrix vibe which resonates with me – laser babies just add to the awesomeness!

With us finally learning that the new Batman movie has a run time of approximately 3 hours, it seems DC was keen to bombard us with some great new comic book content, an epic week for releases sees us delving into Batman Catwoman Special #1 from DC Comics along with the first installment of Peacemaker:Disturbing the Peace.

There were also new issues of DC vs Vampires, now we know who in the Justice League has been turned, it’s time to find out who the Vampire King is!

Marvel have been busy too and released X Deaths of Wolverine #1 on the 26th and if you enjoyed X Lives of Wolverine you will want to continue the saga with this! Marauders Annual #1 follows Kate Pryde on her mission of mutant rescue and Devils Reign: Winter Soldier #1 is a must read for any Bucky or Kingpin fans – which is basically everyone right?

Dark Horse Comics gifts us the new Hellboy and the B.P.R.D:1957 Forgotten Lives #1 which follows our hellish hero to India as he continues to investigate and solve mysterious crimes that are never quite what they seem.

All Guts No Glory Zenescope #1 fills my needs for blood and gore this week! Vampires, Monsters and a whole hive of fantasy swirling around us….this comic follows a clean up crew that has to hide the evidence of all underworldly battles from the innocent eyes of us normal folk!

If your thumbs are twitching, we finally got the next Pokemon game, Pokemon Legends Arceus this week, don’t forget that if you have play records from Brilliant Diamond or Shining Pearl you can take on a special research request that allows you to capture Darkrai (unfortunately not till after the end credits, but it’s something to look forward to!)

We also found out that Legend of Zelda:Majoras Mask is set to drop on Nintendo Switch although you’ll need to be subscribed to the Expansion Pack of Switch Online, seems we are doomed to never be free from the haunting face of the moon!

We should have been indulging in Morbius this week (and it’s been a while since I was excited for a vampire movie…..)which has now been pushed back to April. But, we have got some UK cinema dates for Belle, the Japanese anime take on the classic ‘Beauty and the Beast’ story. Beautifully brought to life by Studio Chizu, I can not wait to see this on February 4th, it’s OK to love comic books AND anime right?!

On that note it’s also the release of The Legend of Vox Machina on Amazon Prime this week (Jan 28th). Following a hugely successful and record breaking Kickstarter campaign, the team at Critical Role get to bring the land of Tal’Dorei to animated life with a host of celebrity guest voices including David Tennant. Get behind the origin story of Exandria’s newest heroes!

Not to be overshadowed by Amazon, Netflix also gifted us with a short teaser trailer for Guillermo del Toro’s Pinocchio. I am a big fan of anything this man creates and I am excited to see a non Disney twist on this classic tale, as long as Figaro is still in it! Although we have to wait till December for this one…

Are you more excited for the long awaited video game releases, the new comic catalogue or have I missed anything from this week’s roster ? Let me know in the comments!
