Lord of the Rings: The Rings Of Power Trailer Review – A New Era of Middle Earth

by Eve Andrews

The fantasy genre has become one of the largest and most popular genres of fiction in the Western world. However, when it comes to giving the grand title of founder, there’s really no contest. The work of J. R. R. Tolkien has been the absolute epitome of the genre ever since the first publication of The Hobbit back in 1937. As such, fantasy fans worldwide were filled with a bittersweet blend of hype and scepticism when Amazon announced the upcoming Lord of the Rings: The Rings Of Power series, a prequel to the beloved Lord Of The Rings movie trilogy based on the book series of the same name.

However, with the release of the brand new trailer, it seems that the hype has been overshadowing the sceptics, with the 1 minute of footage leaving expectant fans buzzing with joy!

The latest trailer for Lord of the Rings: The Rings Of Power brings us the most detailed look yet seen into this new, more modern imagining of Middle Earth. And it certainly came in swinging, with its opening shot displaying the first on-screen depiction of Númenor. With the realm of Númenor being a catalyst to numerous central plot points in the predeceasing books to The Lord Of The Rings, it’s pretty thrilling to finally see it in the flesh!

We’re then treated to a range of sumptuous looking landscape shots, in one of which we see the two Nomadic Hunters, whose pictures were released earlier on in the week. While it’s not confirmed who they are yet, we can probably assume they’re significant, given this is their second notable appearance in the series’ teasers. Following this, we also catch a glimpse of the new character, Tyra (played by Markella Kavenagh), who is one of the nomadic ancestors of the Hobbits. With the Hobbits having always been a central focus of the Middle Earth stories that many know and love, it’s a wonderfully warm feeling to know that they’ll still be around.

Fans were also hyped to be given a glimpse of Lady Galadriel, depicted in her younger years as an Elvish Warrior, played by Morfydd Clark. Given all the press surrounding Clark’s character, as well her front and centre appearances in the brand new trailer, I think we can safely assume that Galadriel will be having a hefty chunk of screen time in this series and that we’ll likely be delving further into her backstory than ever before. Alongside this, we’re also introduced to a range of new characters, including a bunch of new elves, human characters and a mysterious man residing in a shell of molten lava, who fans have come to know as ‘the meteor man’. Who could it be? There are already many theories, but we can’t wait to find out for certain!

As gleaned from the trailer, we can safely assume that this brand new series will have a bunch of familiar elements inspired by Peter Jackson’s treasured adaptation of the trilogy while also delving deep into a myriad of content that many fans have yet to see.

Lord Of The Rings: The Rings Of Power will be available to view in the UK on September 2nd 2022, on Amazon Prime.
