Lord of the Rings: ‘The Rings of Power’ Revealed, New Batman and Super Mario Leaks

by Samii Jinx

2022 is spoiling us already with some recent amazing deliveries from Guillermo del Toro, Marvel and DC in the forms of Peacemaker, Nightwing, Black Cat and Batman. We also had updates from Lord of the Rings, Cowboy Bebop and Scott Pilgrim!

Alas, there is still so much more to look forward to!

This week has blessed us with beautiful releases including tonight (Friday 21st) when Guillermo del Toro’s new movie Nightmare Alley releases in UK cinemas, over a year after its release in the US in 2021! Starring Bradley Cooper, a downtrodden man who resorts to working in the carnival for Clem, a ringleader with no shame surrounding how he gets his ‘freakshow’ acts. This one is a must see!

The eagerly anticipated Peacemaker series finally came to fruition on HBO Max and has already gained its own fanbase! Written by James Gunn and starring John Cena, we finally have a ‘hero’ who is not afraid to kill in the name of peace.

The comic book world was even busier, Batman:The Knight (issue 1) revolves around a new take on the origins of Batman and landed in all good comic book stores on the 18th as well as new issues from Nightwing, Wonder Woman and Catwoman. Did you want to see Marvel’s Black Cat being rescued by Mary Jane? Of course you did! Black Cat/Mary Jane:Beyond dropped on the 19th January, at the same time Marvel gave us new Miles Morales and Strange Academy stories amongst many others!

Titan Books released a new run of Cowboy Bebop featuring artwork for the Netflix series (let’s hope the Netflix fans are open to a new media!) And also launched a new series, Bolero focusing around a young woman and the key that allows her to travel to parallel universes – the catch? Don’t ask to talk to THE MOTHER!

For you monster horror lovers, catch Cover of Darkness issue 1 which graced us this week via publishers Source Point Press!

If crime fighting superheroes are your thing, the mythical looking Crescent also began this week. Advent Comics unleashes Crescent to us as well as his foe The Coroner for a timeless battle of good vs evil that never gets old!

We love a good comic/movie/game crossover and with Scott Pilgrim vs The World Complete Edition launching across all platforms recently, how could we not mention it?! Hitman 3 and family friendly Teratopia also launched on all systems and means there’s something cute and fuzzy for the kids to play whilst the parents tear it up across Dubai and Dartmoor….or vice versa!

As for sneaky news….Mario Kart 9 had its first leak which teased we may be able to play as more than just Mario characters!

We also learned the name for the new Lord of the Rings series set for Amazon Prime, Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power and that it will be set during the Second Age of Middle Earth, long before the Hobbit.

It almost feels like the pause we’ve been on for the last 2 years is now resulting in 2022 being full steam ahead!

Is there anything you are really looking forward to see/play? Let us know in the comments!
